Gosh, I Bet This Is... by braces

rvdb: Congrats on your win.

Nikoneer: I pulled a copy and inverted it in Photoshop. Hmmmmm... it sort of looks like the framework of a dirigible, but I don't know where you would have found one of those. It's definitely some sort on construct made of girders. No idea if they're full size or miniature, but when I inverted it I could see a kind of curved ceiling above it, made of long tiles. The arrangement of girder lines running across the top and those three coming down the left side indicate we're looking at the rounded end of this thing... boy, Caruso, you've got a dilly of a stumper, here. I'm supposing you're putting this one in the contest? Whether your original or the inverted copy I saw in Photoshop, it's not just a real mystery but it's a very cool image for a desktop. I'm always a sucker for repetition of lines... even if they appear to go nowhere. Good luck in the contest--but you won't need it ;o)

What is this? by Ramad

tigger3: This was a good one, congrats. tigs=^..^=

Nikoneer: It looks like a type of quick-release plate for something... maybe a small tripod head for a small camera? You press in on the two sides to release the button in the middle? The round "button" near the top and the rectangular one at the bottom are out-of-focus, so that means they stick up further than the rest of the object. Hmmmmm (that's me, thinking...).

5th place
What Could It Be by jerseygurl

icedancer: Well, I'm with Les & Thad - I think it's a colourful stack of CD's. Excellent for the contest

0930_23: Congrats on your finish in the contest Laura.

questjester: Hmm ...

Well, I was all ready to jump on the "it's a stack of cd discs" bandwagon, until purmusic pointed out that he believes it to be pitting instead of moisture. So unless you chew on your discs the way that some people chew on pens ... now I'm not sure?

Maybe a spool of wire?
